Plans and purchases

What is free?

Scanning, importing, editing, and exporting, sharing or printing PDF, JPG and PNG files are free and unlimited, with no watermark and no ads. Each month the free plan also includes 5 documents with searchable text and 5 AI actions (on devices with Apple Intelligence), and you can create up to 3 folders.

What does Premium add?

Signatures, unlimited text recognition and search, unlimited AI on supported devices, iCloud sync between your devices, password-protected PDFs, TXT export, stamps and unlimited folders. You can choose a monthly or yearly subscription (the yearly plan includes a free trial for new subscribers) or a one-time lifetime purchase. The app and the App Store show the prices in your currency.

How do I restore my purchase on a new device?

Sign in with the same Apple Account, then open Settings > Premium > Restore Purchases (it’s also at the bottom of the Premium screen). Premium is restored at no cost. If you share Premium through Family Sharing, it appears automatically for the members of your family group.

How do I cancel or change my subscription?

Open Settings > Premium > Manage Subscription in the app, or go to the Settings app > your name > Subscriptions. Cancel at least 24 hours before the renewal date to avoid being charged for the next period. Deleting the app doesn’t cancel a subscription. If Premium ends, you keep all your documents, including the signatures placed in them: you can still open, export, share, print and delete them.

How do I redeem an offer code?

Open Settings > Premium > Redeem Code, or tap Redeem Code on the Premium screen.

Can I get a refund?

Purchases are processed by Apple, so refunds are requested from Apple at reportaproblem.apple.com.

Using the app

How do I scan a document?

Tap the scan button and hold your iPhone or iPad over the page: the app captures it automatically when the page is steady and in focus. Good light and a dark, flat surface give the best results. You can also import photos and PDF files from Photos or Files.

Why does a document show “Make Searchable”?

Text recognition always runs on your device. On the free plan, the first 5 new documents of each month become searchable automatically; the others show Make Searchable, which uses that month’s free quota or Premium. Searchable documents can be found by their content and exported as searchable PDFs.

Why don’t I see the AI features?

Summaries, extracted details and questions about a document run on your device with Apple Intelligence. They appear on supported iPhone and iPad models with iOS 26 or later, when Apple Intelligence is turned on in the Settings app and supports your language. On other devices, the app shows details detected on the device instead, such as dates, totals and contact information.

How do I turn on iCloud sync?

iCloud sync is a Premium feature. Open Settings > iCloud and turn on Sync with iCloud on each device, signed in with the same Apple Account. Your documents are stored in your own private iCloud database. Saved signatures sync only if you also turn on Sync Signatures. If sync seems stuck, check that you’re signed in to iCloud, that you have free iCloud storage and a connection, and leave the app open for a moment.

How do I lock the app?

Open Settings > Security and turn on the lock with Face ID, Touch ID or your device passcode.

Where are my documents stored?

On your device, in the app’s private storage, and in your device backups. Nothing is uploaded unless you share or export a document or turn on iCloud sync. Deleted documents stay in the Trash for 30 days, so you can restore them.

On iPad, where is Settings?

It’s the gear button at the top of the sidebar, next to “Library”. Doc Scanner supports several windows, Split View, Stage Manager and keyboard shortcuts.

I used version 1.x. What changed?

Version 2.0 is a complete rewrite: it saves your documents in a library, recognizes text, and has no ads. Version 1.x didn’t keep a library, so there is nothing to move.
